Question 7. Deciding the answers to questions

Generally we might know the questions we want to ask but we are not sure of the range of answers we can provide. So for example we might what to ask:

Did you have any problems accessing the clinic?

Yes No

If you had a problem what was the problem?

1

How might we find the range of responses that a person can give, so that we can include tick boxes? For example, problems accessing the clinic might include: parking, timing of appointment, directions/difficulty finding the clinic and many many more.

a)
b)
c)
d)
Ideally we ask the potential respondents to get a range of possible answers to enter into the questionnaire.

We should not guess, or ask a bunch of friends but should ideally ask a sample of potential respondents to get from them the range of answers that are possible for this question.

We can ask people to do a paragraph of text but this is very hard to analyse in the end so is not really recommended.
