General Resources

Section I
In this section several additional article excerpts providing position statements that further illustrate Chapters 1, 2, and 3.

Section II
In this section several additional research article excerpts providing examples of qualitative research studies are provided to further illustrate Chapters 4, 5, and 6.

Section III
This section provides extended coverage for Chapters 7 and 8. It contains empirically descriptive concepts for empirical data. This webpage presents many technical details that were beyond the original plan for a first level introduction to research book Examples of their Applications from the Literature are also provided.

Section IV
In this section, information describing statistical methods for hypothesis testing are elaborated. It describes many of the computational models and extensions for those models, and also presents more examples of the use of those empirical procedures for probability based hypothesis testing drawn from the counseling and related literature. These include analysis of variance with multiple factors and a repeated set of dependent variables and assess the strength of the replications. It is also possible to improve the quality of a researcher’s study by purging extraneous variance from the dependent variable by a process known as analysis of covariance ANCOVA. Also included are explanations and examples of the multivariate version of analysis of variance known as MANOVA. These statistical models construct a dependent variable from several variables measuring possible dimensions that were impacted by the treatment condition (independent variable).

Section V
In this section, information about the three primary forms of psychological testing are described. Also included here are several examples of their use in clinical research. This is a basic overview of psychological measurement and students are encouraged to use a standard source more detailed information about psychological assessment

Section VI
This section provides several additional supplemental examples of Mixed methods and Evaluation Research. These examples illustrate the interplay of research design and research validity.
